House of Dereon Interview Gets Shut Down in Chicago...

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingI wasn't even gonna post this, but after watching it, I felt compelled. I first saw it at Juicy News, and I gotta tell you, the stuff is just not all the way together in the House of Dereon camp. First of all, why stop an interview just because you don't like the question? At the level that Beyonce has risen to, they should know that everything that comes at them is not gonna be positive. You should be prepared for whatever. And this isn't the first time I've seen Tina get all defensive. Where are their handlers? Do they even have a PR person? Because to me, when people witness defensive type behavior like this, people are going to naturally assume the worst. The interview felt real "amateur-ish" and Beyonce seems really "plastic" and too "rehearsed", like a performer and not a real person. And they should be waaaaay past bumbling through an interview this way, but you read it then watch it, and let me know what you think... The headline says that Beyonce cut off the interview, but it was really Tina... Beyonce just sat there like some kind of clueless wind up doll, and if I sound harsh, I'm just getting real tired of seeing them exhibit this same behavior over and over, so if you don't see it that way, I certainly welcome your point of view...

Beyonce Cuts Off Interview About New Clothing Line
CBS 2 Had Asked About Concerns From Local Boutiques

(CBS) CHICAGO Chicago fans were showing their love for Beyonce Knowles on Thursday. The pop diva was in town to launch her new clothing line. But as Dana Kozlov shows us, the love-fest stopped when a CBS 2 reporter asked a hard-nosed question about Beyonce's fashions.

The international singing sensation and her mother, Tina Knowles were at Macy's on State Street to promote their new clothing lines and in-store boutique.“The clothes appeal to everyone; the working woman, the teenager, the trendy woman,” Beyonce said.And no surprise - they drew an adoring crowd."It was really awesome. I love her so much and I don't know it was really amazing,” said one fan.

The new, higher end line is called House of Dereon. Allyson Masters, the owner of Impressions Boutique in Wheaton said the pieces are beautifully made.But she said there's just one problem, the sizing was all wrong.“I could not get the two tops I received to fit anybody," Masters said.The owners of other area boutiques have expressed similar concerns. And many were still waiting for a call back from the company on Thursday.But these are concerns Knowles public relations people were apparently not prepared to address. When CBS 2's Consumer Reporter Dorothy Tucker asked about those concerns, the interview abruptly came to an end.

I really don't do these style verdicts for people to validate the things that I buy, because I truly want to know your thoughts on the trend. That being said, ok, yes, I've already bought one. I wanted it for a cocktail function that I'm attending this weekend. And I thought it was so cuuuuuute! The one I bought is a black wool blend, short-sleeved, with an inverted pleat in back, just perfect for layering. My husband and my friend Holly TOTALLY made fun of it when I showed it to them, they said it looked like something for my 4 year old niece. But WHATEV! I'm a trendsetter baby! And, I'll be a total FASHIONISTA when I wear it with my black pencil skirt, 3 inch black heels and classic red lip. Fierce! But hey, that's just my take. I wanna know what you think about this cropped coat trend. Do you like it? Hate it? Don't care? Would YOU wear it? I wanna know your style verdict.

Project Runway Quickie Recap...

This week's challenge was the last before the big show. Nina (Garcia) delivered the challenge informing designers that they were taking off the reins! Designers could basically design what they want! Yay! The winning design will have their design photographed by world renowned photographer Gilles Bensimon to be featured in Elle Magazine. Follow along with me, will you, as I recap this week's episode in about 25 seconds...
You would think that with basically NO guidelines this week, that the challenge would be easy, but they all struggled with it a bit. First of all, there is no final 3. Instead judges are sending all 4 to Olympus Fashion Week. So even though Jeffrey's design looked a crooked mess, Jeffrey is in. FOR NOW. Something big is gonna go down on the final episode, and it has to do with allegations that Jeffrey cheated. So the saga continues...
Uli wins after struggling with her design at the beginning. Judges thought she showed something different from her norm, but is it just me, or did her dress look pretty much the same as the rest of her designs?
Laura designed her classic cocktail dress, and though the jugdes liked it, they were also bored with it at the same time. They expressed concern that Uli Laura might be a "one-note" designer. Michael struggles as well this week, and I get the feeling that the judges REALLY want him to do well, their expectation of him is super high which could be both good and bad. There's only the final show left where they show their designs at Olympus Fashion Week! May the best Michael man win!

Did Jeffrey CHEAT on Project Runway?

Project Runway producers "did a very intense and thorough investigation" of accusations that Jeffrey cheated.
{Story below} Jeffrey Sebelia has been investigated for cheating on the runway collection he presented at Fashion Week. Laura “Bennett told the producers she believed Sebelia had outsourced his sewing—which would disqualify him,” according to New York magazine.
Tim Gunn tells the magazine, “We took the accusation very seriously, and we did a very intense and thorough investigation.” Laura’s accusation came after Tim Gunn “visited Sebelia in L.A.” and found him with what Tim describes as “a lot of work to do.” That news, according to New York magazine, “reached Bennett, whose mother had met and become friendly with Sebelia’s mother.” She made her accusation when she saw Jeffrey’s “miraculously finished collection.”
What happened? “Bravo would not allow him to reveal the resolution,” it reports, and it will apparently be dealt with on TV as part of the finale. Tim did say, however, that “His collection was very ambitious. I wasn’t born yesterday.”
I sure can't wait to see what this is about...

I Heart Black & White...

Liya Kebede.
I LOVE black and white. Black and white photography, old black and white movies, the colors black and white. Black and white together make for a classic style combination. Black and white movies, like classic Alfred Hitchkock, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, and Jimmy Stewart movies are some of the best. There's nothing like spending a lazy evening on the sofa, with a pillow and blanket, and warm fuzzy socks, eating your fave ice cream while watching a classic black and white. Love, love, LOVE! And black and white photography, to me, is the absolute creme of the crop, it holds so much more drama than color. I heart black and white!

Janet. Ms. Jackson, if ya nasty...

Marilyn Monroe.

Angelina Jolie.

Dorothy Dandridge.

Beyonce's House of Dereon Shows at Macy's

Beyonce's House of Dereon Line showed yesterday at a dress rehearsal for the 2006 Macy's Glamorama in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There is something about the House of Dereon clothing line that's just like... meh, to me. But maybe that's just me. Her stuff is a bit pricey, but I do think the sweater with the short shorts is kinda cute... don't really see anything else I like a whole lot about the rest of it. What do you think? {Click pics for a closer view}

Style Verdict - Cropped Vests

Photo Source: People Mag
The cropped vest. Like the Fashion Mags say, and this may sound somewhat contradictory, but these fitted cropped menswear vests really highlight a womans curves. And I know this because I bought one over the weekend. It was styled on the hanger over a white button up shirt, like in the photos above, over a pair of skinny jeans. The styling was so on point I was instantly sold. It is absolutley amazing to me how easily swayed I can be sometimes, but I actually like the look. The cropped vest is by no means my regular mode of dress, but I can roll with a more tailored look every now and again. I can, because I am a style chameleon. Or a sucker for trendy store merchandising, however you want to spin it. But hey, I want to know your thoughts. I want to know what you think about this trend. Do you like it? Hate it? Don't care? Would YOU buy it and wear it? I wanna know your style verdict.

Possible Project Runway SPOILER ALERT!

These are a few looks (I liked) from the Project Runway designers final [Fashion Week] shows. I'm not sure why all 4 of them showed, but maybe Project Runway producers knew that photos would get out so they didn't want the viewing audience to know exactly who made it to the final 3? I don't know. Anyway, if you are one who doesn't like to "spoil the surprise" my suggesstion to for you is to click away now... but hey, if you seriously don't care, check out some of my fave looks from the Project Runway Designers final shows! {Click pics for a better view}

If you don't know by now that I want Michael to win the whole thing, then you must not be a regular reader of this blog...

3. Paris, France (For obvious reasons) Why not??? This IS a wishlist!
4. Los Angeles (Just because I miss it sometimes) And I have TOO MANY shopping (and restaurant) spots to count out there, seriously, that would be a good time...

2007 NY Fashion Week - Anna Sui

Some of my fave looks from Anna Sui. She has an ecclectic, bohemian, rock & roll style that I like. Love what she can do with a doll dress, and love that I can sometimes find her stuff at T.J. Maxx! That 1st printed off-the-shoulder number is me ALL DAY! {Click pics for a better view}

So Long Kayne, Pageant Queen...

Last night's episode brought back 2 eliminated designers, Angela (Jeffrey wasn't at all happy) and Vincent. Follow along with me, will you, as I recap the episode that eliminated the eternal pageant gown designer...
This week's challenge was to design a cocktail outfit using only black and white fabric. The sub-challenge was that the designers had to use every inch of fabric that they purchased, no leftover scraps.
Laura wins this weeks challenge after having a mini breakdown. Her dress wasn't too much my taste, but judges felt she showed some diversity in her design, which is why she was this weeks winner.
Zac Posen loved Michael's design, no surprise there, as Michael is the absolute greatest.
Jeffrey's cocktail dress looked like Madonna from the 1980's. Still wasn't enough to eliminate him.
Vincent and Angela were being Vincent and Angela all over again, even on this, their second chance. They were immediatly eliminated... again.
Kayne tried to come out of his pageant box, but fell short. Judges commended him for not being such a "overly embellished" designer on this challenge, but he failed to use both black and white, as the front of his dress was fine, but the back of his dress looked... well, not cute. So, Kayne was auf'd. Down to the final 4! Next week's challenge will determine which 3 will show at New York's Olympus Fashion week!
Go Michael!

2007 NY Fashion Week - Monique Lhuillier

Yay! Monique and I are both Alumni of the Fashion Institute in Los Angeles, she was a few years ahead of me... she's made a name for herself with her wedding gowns, and I'm loving the dresses in her Spring '07 collection, so feminine and fluid. That 2nd strapless brown number is for me! Love it. {Click pics for a better view}

Awww Yeah. Countdown to B-Day...

Ring the alarm! And, NO, it's not for Beyonce, but it's for my BIRTHDAY which will happen exactly 30 days from today! And anybody that knows me, KNOWS that I make a big huge deal out of my birthday every year, and if you don't know... now you know. One month from today (October 12) I'll be turning a year older but today starts the countdown! So in an effort to help you to get to know me a little better, within these next 30 days, in between my fabulous style and entertainment posts, I'm gonna try and help you to get to know me better, starting with my My Space page! Hey! I'm on My Space! Still don't completely understand My Space (took me like an hour to figure out how to add a friend), but I have a page! And 2 friends! Well, one of 'em is "Tom" and I think he becomes everybody's friend when they sign up... but anyway, check me out, as a couple of my colleagues kept telling me I needed one for my biz... And, for ONE MONTH ONLY, to stay in the "celebratory and festive mood" of my upcoming birthday, you can "boogie to your best ability" to my "throwback old-school hip-hop mix" cuz this fashionista is straight old school son (ok, that was real fun to type :-)... Born in the 70's and grew up in the 80's like me? Just like to "break it down"? Don't hurt yourself on the old school mix... let the countdown begin!

2007 NY Fashion Week - Project Runway's Malan Breton!

September 11, 2006, 5 Year Anniversary...

September 11, 2001, this is one day that happened 5 years ago today that changed the world forever... Determined not to be fearful and afraid, I visited New York exactly 2 months after the tragedy, in December of 2001. I remember the "Thank you for visiting" signs being all over the place back then, because the city was truly greatful for any and all support.
