Style Verdict: Pale Lips

I'll be the first to admit, that a pale lip is more my "everyday look". I do like a bolder lip on occasion, but not for everyday. It's a fierce look (the bold lip) but too hard to keep up for daily use in my opinion. A pale lip is a fresher, younger, cleaner look. Shiny, with just a hint of color. How can you miss? And a pale lip is most often paired with a bolder, smokier eye. It just balances things out. If you're gonna play up your eyes, tone down your lips. If you're going for a bolder lip, then tone down the eyes. Simple! So unless you're a drag queen, I'd stay away from all-over bold. My everyday lippy is a golden-bronze based gloss that I purchase from my local Hair Crown for $1.99. Love. And I've recently discovered a new shiny, glittery gloss that looks fabulous on me too! I'll tell you about it later. But I wanna know what you think about pale lips, is it a look you already rock? What's your color? Do you like this look? Hate it? Don't care? Would you wear it? I wanna know your style verdict.

I'm a HUGE fan of this look... It's an easy way to turn your look "up a notch" during the day.

LOVE IT!

Blogger Erica B. said ... (1:17 PM) :

I love the pale look too. My favorite is "Oh Baby" MAC Lipglass and "Chestnut" lipliner.

erica b..you took the gloss right off my "lips"!!! im rocking oh baby lipglass RIGHT now (with "bbq" liner)...LOVE the nude lip look

Blogger nitabita said ... (10:06 AM) :

erica b. called it...oh baby! I am all about lip gloss/glass. Lipstick just seems to be too much sometimes.

p.s. Hip Candy is an upscale, classy kinda site. Can we refrain from having to see images of Kim Kardashian? She represents all that is wrong in the world...kinda like that $40,000 LV bag...a H.A.M.!

I have to co-sign with the rest of you - it's all about Oh Baby! I think a pale lip is gorgeous when there's just a touch of shine. A matte, pale lip (a la Aguilera) just seems to wash you out.

Oh, and is that Kim Kardashian or the singer from Pussycat Dolls? I can't tell...

Blogger Chanel said ... (2:17 PM) :

it's Nicole Sherz..lala..er, what is her last name??? You know, that lead singer one from the pussycat dolls. She does favor the Kardashian chick though... and Kobe Bryants wife Vanessa. The three of them are pretty interchangeable in their looks if you ask me.

I'm really loving the gloss. For years I have worn lipstick...got every color. I mostly wear Mary Kay and Mac products. They both have great glosses. I agree that if your eyes are bold, then your lips should be toned down some.

2 thumbs up!!

Blogger nitabita said ... (11:44 AM) :

Whew...thanks for the correction miss angel & chanel...that's not Kim KarNASTYian...

interchangeable...LOL!

Blogger Chanel said ... (1:09 PM) :

lol @ Kim KarNASTYian!

Ha!

I had a friend try the "Pale" lip thing and her lips look straight up ASHY! I think it's a beautiful style if you know how to apply it!! I'd do it!

Anonymous swb said ... (6:26 AM) :

I can accept the pale look, but I noticed that you didn't show any dark chocolate or honey bronze toned models wearing the pale look. Wonder how they would look in pale.

Blogger Chanel said ... (10:27 AM) :

swb-
U are absolutely right! My apologies for that oversight.

Blogger Melody said ... (8:49 PM) :

I love the pale look, J.Lo has it down to a science...but I agree with juiicy, if you use a matte lip, it can look ashy, but like CiCi and Nicole, if you add a little gloss it works nice. The pale lip is my daily look.

Blogger scarlettholly said ... (2:58 PM) :

It seems I'll have to get some "oh baby" lip gloss next time I'm at the MAC counter. Their glosses can be a little sticky though. Am loving the look though.

Anonymous Sarah B ;-) said ... (11:24 AM) :

I think the "pale lip" can be applied to all shades of skin tone... Just as long as you keep the "pale" relative...

I.e. "pale" for Paris Hilton does NOT equal "pale" for Naomi Campbell. :-)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:19 AM) :

my fave to where everyday is shinylicious lip gloss by maybelline. they are sheer with lil bit of tint of color. i love it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:16 AM) :

Um, hold on, let me check your pulse. Yup, she's a gonner. Okay, what happened to "a youthful and healthy face?" Who wants to already go ahead of their time and go for pale lips. I say color is better, even natural can beat pale. We're not all drug addict rock stars, so no need for the pale lip.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:09 PM) :

I'm on the fence with this one...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:47 PM) :

The best lip gloss in my opinion is NARS... its highly pigmented and doesn't just go on clear like everything else i've tried. I hate that basically all lip glosses look quite colorful when condensed in the tube but when put on its just clear. If you want a nude lip, I'd try NARS' Striptease color.

Pale lips are definetly more of an everyday look.

However, I'm more of a fan of a "natural" lip look than of pale lips...(Christina Aguilara's pale lips do not suit her. She always seems to go to extremes when using lip color) I use lighter, peachier, natural shades of lipcolor/gloss but still with a hint of color to distinguish it from the rest of my face skin.

A good lip gloss that I've been using is the Maybelline New York series, with about 2-3 shades more darker/colorful than my skin shade.
