Fall Fashion Week Pre-Show: Rachel Roy

Rachel Roy showed off her fall 2007 collection on Wednesday (Jan. 31) in New York, and although I really liked a couple of her pieces (like I don't quite understand why I totally love the little grey mini-dress with the pockets... but I do!) I think that her Spring/Summer collection was a little stronger. I do however, LOVE that she included pockets on almost all of her pieces. A nice touch.

A handful of celebrity presenters at the Golden Globe Awards were surprised with personalized "My Starbucks" T-shirts depicting their favorite Starbucks beverage.

Starbucks collaborated with Mychael Knight from the hit Bravo TV show Project Runway to create T-shirts showcasing the thousands of beverage options at Starbucks.

Starbucks is donating the one-of-a-kind celebrity-signed T-shirts to the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation. The Clothes Off Our Back Foundation hosts charity auctions showcasing today's hottest celebrity attire, with proceeds going to benefit various children's charities.

The T-shirts are up for auction through March. Other celebs doing T-shirts are Jessica Biel, Terrence Howard, and My girl, Jennifer Hudson. Don't you want one?! I do!

Elie Saab's "Bo Peep" Couture

Like my title? That's just my "fashion editor" alter ego emerging. Anyway, after viewing Elie Saab's Paris couture collection, see if you don't agree. Elie Saab showed during Paris Couture Week last Monday, and after viewing his collection (online), I thought that his gowns were beautifully executed, and also wonderfully wearable for couture, but the "Little Bo Peep" influences, with his use of oversized bows, ruffles and tiers was pretty "out in front" to me. But like I said, you can see for yourself.
The madness that is New York Fashion Week begins in 3 days! Stay tuned...

A Dress Re-Worked...

Well, I had a black dress in my closet that I hadn't worn for YEARS. The dress was just in there.. hanging. This dress was completely forgotten in my closet until I did that Black Mini Dress post, and then a light bulb just went off in my head... So I said to myself, "Self, why don't you just change the hem on this dress and make your own version?

So that's what I did!

Style Verdict: Black and White for Spring

I spotted this black and white "trend" over at Elle (2007 Spring Season's Biggest Trends!), but I have to tell you, I have a problem with calling the classic and timeless color combination of black and white a "trend". To me, black and white together NEVER, EVER goes out of style. It's perfect together, it's "yin" and "yang". It's "ebony" and "ivory". It lives together in perfect harmony. Sorry... couldn't resist that one! But whether it's photographs, movies or clothing, I think black and white is fabulous together. But what do YOU think? Do you think it's great together? Do you like it? Hate it? Don't care? Would you wear it? I wanna know your style verdict.

Just One More Reason Why I Need to Be Rollin' In It...

I spotted this over at CHANEL Amour. This bag costs just under 2 grand. But there's something about this bag. This bag reached out to me. This bag right here desperately wants to come and live with me. This bag wants to go shopping with me, it wants to go out to dinner with me, it wants to style and profile with me 24/7. This bag has my name on it. Figuratively and literally. Just one reason why I know that this bag is for me. Destiny. It's destiny I tell you. And you should know. You don't mess with destiny.

It's Raining Here...

It's cold too, and I don't like it. Just about the only thing I can stand about cold, rainy, wet, soggy, moist and nasty weather is that I have the shoes for it. Wellies! Yes Wellies. Puddle jumpers. Rainboots. The plaid pair below is the EXACT pair I own. And I love 'em.

And before you ask, NO, you don't have to be a 4th grader to wear a pair. All you need to own a pair of Wellies, is a severe love for your suede peep toe wedges that you are soooo not gonna ruin by wearing them out in the wet and nasty. You can wear your Wellies with your fave jeans tucked in or out or even pair them with a fun skirt. Mine are so roomy inside that I can wear them with my fuzziest pair of fuzzball socks underneath for maximum dryness and comfort! And let me tell you, everytime I wear mine out in rainy weather, someone compliments me on them. I can always count on a "Wow! You knew what to do today didn't you!" Or a, "Oh! How cute those are! You're smart!" See?

I'm telling you, if you decide to buy a pair, believe me, it won't be a wasted purchase, and don't even worry about it... you can just thank me later. Click to browse more Wellies from designer to bargain priced, and next time it rains, you'll be so glad you did.

Brad and Angie are Moving Here.

Brangelina just bought a house here in Louisiana (New Orleans).

Hollywood’s favorite nomadic couple is finally settling down – far away from Tinseltown.
Angelina Jolie tells Us Weekly that she and Brad Pitt have moved their three children, Maddox, 5, Zahara, 2, and 7-month-old Shiloh, to New Orleans.

“We love it there,” Jolie told Us at the Golden Globe Awards after confirming the move. “The kids are going to go to school there. We're really looking forward to it.”

On January 12, just a day after moving to The Big Easy, Jolie was already mixing with the locals at restaurant Angeli on Decatur.

Diner Jorge Palacios tells Us the star – clad in an ivory dress over white pants – blended right in: “No one at my table believed me when I told them it was her.” And that’s just what she wants.

While Pitt works (he’s filming The Curious Case of Benjamin Button locally), sources say Jolie, 31, plans on being a low-key mom in the $3.5 million, six-bedroom, four-and-a-half bath mansion the pair recently purchased (their fourth house) in the French Quarter.

“She’s interested in befriending normal moms so she can do things with the kids,” says a Jolie source.

And who can forget their humanitarian efforts? “Angelina has asked for places she can do charity work,” says the source, who adds that Jolie had inquired about a school for disadvantaged youth. And construction is set to start this month on the 20 environment-friendly homes Pitt, 43, jointly commissioned with Global Green USA.

The couple also hope to raise awareness for the region, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Says the source, “They think it is important to be there right now.”

Well if Brangelina can bring more attention to the region to make a difference, I think its a good thing them being here. A lot of progress has been made in the city of New Orleans since Katrina, but there is still a very long long way to go.

It's Roberto Cavalli!

Thanks to my girl Jamie, [thanks Jamie!] we now know who makes this [Jessica Alba] dress that I want! It's Roberto Cavalli! Roberto Cavalli!

Once again, resourceful Hip Candy readers get it done.

Inspired by Michael Kors...

This dress right here is for ME. Vintage done RIGHT! When I saw this Michael Kors metallic brocade dress in my January '07 issue of ELLE magazine, let me tell you. I fell HARD. I may get upset with Michael at times during his judging stints on "Project Runway" but the man's talent is undeniable. There's an air of "wearable luxury" to his pieces, in my opinion. I love the Audrey Hepburn look and feel of this dress. I want this dress! And I will truly attempt to do it justice when fabricating my own version (the Michael Kors version will set you back a cool $1,595, just fyi...).
That embroidered black fabric above? I purchased 5 yards of it like a year ago, and I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do with it until I saw that dress. Now, I'm gonna try and take my time on this one, as I tend to rush through sewing. Back when I was in design school, (FIDM) we generally had to crank out a new piece on a weekly basis, and I think operating in that kind of fast paced environment carried over into my post-degree sewing activities. I usually sew like I have to have it done RIGHT AWAY, or I'll wait until RIGHT BEFORE an event, and want to sew up an entire ensemble to wear to said event without giving myself ample time to complete it. It's probably psychological. Design school was an extremely intense venture. One day soon, I'll tell you all about it!

Anyway, I don't currently have any upcoming special events to where this dress to. But I'm certain I will! I'm excited about it! Stay tuned...

Style Verdict: Baby Doll Mini Dresses in Black

Ok, I have to admit, I LOVE this babydoll mini trend! Everytime I see it, I picture myself looking oh so fab in one of my own! Sienna Miller wears hers with a bare leg, sandals, matching bag and necklace. "Joan" (Tracee Ellis Ross) wore hers with leggings, black pumps and a headband (cute!) in the "Everybody Hates Monica" episode of "Girlfriends". And the last dress by Foley is lace (Shop Bop) and is accessorized with black hosiery and pumps. Nice all three ways! Now that you know that I'm head over heels for the trend, what are YOUR thoughts on it? Do you like it? Hate it? Don't care? Would you wear it? I wanna know YOUR style verdict.

Cute, Not Cute: The New Aliph Jawbone Bluetooth

I am not a fan of bluetooth devices, and my phone is bluetooth capable! But I wanted to see what you guys thought about this new style spin on bluetooth...

Appealing to gadget and fashion lovers alike, Aliph’s Jawbone Bluetooth headset gives us functional simplicity. Designed by award-winning product designer Yves BĂ©har, this sexy headset curves to match the silhouette of your face, hence the aptly named Jawbone. With a sleek, perforated metal exterior available in red, silver or black, tech meets chic with what Aliph is referring to as “the world’s first adaptive Bluetooth headset.” This is where the military-grade noise-canceling system comes into play. We’ve all gotten annoyed on our cell phone when ambient noise or wind makes conversations difficult. The Jawbone Bluetooth headset claims to use Noise Shield technology that subtracts the unwanted noise, then identifies, isolates and boosts your speech. Go ahead and play that video game while talking to your mother, she won’t have a clue.

So what do ya'll think? CUTE or NOT CUTE?

Cute, Not Cute: People's Choice Awards

The 2007 People's Choice Awards went down last night in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium, so I said to myself, "self" you haven't done a CUTE, NOT CUTE red carpet post in a while, not since the 2006 MTV VMA's last year, so here is my first one for 2007!

Halle is 40 and fabulous! I thought Halle looked great last night in this gold plated number. It showed off her legs and her toned physique. And she don't look no kinda pregnant in this pic like what's been widely speculated. CUTE.I don't know what Sandra Oh (or more likely, her stylist) was thinking when they let her leave the house with this shapless dress on. She has the cutest little figure! And this dress looks like the Chrysler building to me. I don't like it. NOT CUTE.

Now this little taupe off the shoulder number that Ali Larter is wearing, well I thought this dress was super chic! Nevermind that I LOVE almost ANYTHING that's off the shoulder sexy. CUTE.
Katherine Heigl from Grey's Anatomy in this... blue.. number. Uh-uh. Didn't like it. Another shapely girl wearing a near shapeless dress. To me, it looks like her grandma or her great aunt or somebody made it, and not well either. This dress is sooo not flattering on her, and she should KNOW better. NOT CUTE.Now I've been a Malinda Williams fan for a long time. She's cute as a button to me, this dress, however IS NOT. Not by a long shot. Short in front with a long train in back??? No ma'am. NOT CUTE.
Kate Walsh in a navy blue STUNNER! Now this chick is showin' 'em how it's supposed to be done! Fabulous. Definitely CUTE.

Joely Fisher. Ya'll should already know exactly where I'm about to go. I think Joely may have forgotten this little tidbit of info, that if your "girls" are a bit on the heavy side, that they need support. They need to be reigned in, hoisted and harnessed. Your "girls" can't support themselves anymore Joely. I'm gonna need for you to handle that a l'il better next time, mmm-kay? Thanks.

And lastly, these long, floor sweeping ball gowns on a red carpet that's NOT the Oscars. I take a bit of an issue with this. And maybe it's just me, but floor length ball gowns at movie premieres, the MTV Awards, the Grammy's, the AMA's, the People's Choice, and I could go on, but to me, long dresses are supremely OUT OF PLACE at some of these events. The Oscars? Ok. The Tony's? Ok. But IMO, a long formal gown at an event that seems more suited to a chic cocktail dress (see Halle, Ali, and Kate above), just looks like silliness. It looks like people who are way too eager to play "dress up" to me. So I don't like it, and I'm not saying I don't like these gowns, but I don't like these gowns for this occasion. Personal preference. So this one is a NOT CUTE.

Style Verdict: Spring '07 Trend-Primary Colors

Well, I don't know about ya'll, but I'm loving this color trend for spring! I've already purchased some of that green, and I plan on getting some yellow, red, pink and purple too! And I love that [green] Stella McCartney dress btw! There's nothing like color to add some punch to the black, tan, navy and grey that's probably already crowding most of our closets. And if you're still thinking that color is a bit too much for you, how about trying it on a smaller scale, like a shoe, purse or a scarf? I love it! But that's just me, I wanna know what you think about this bright color trend for Spring '07. Do YOU love it? Hate it? Don't care? Would you wear it? I wanna know your style verdict.
