Tina Turner's Designer Tour Costume Revealed..

WWD is reporting that Tina Turner is teaming up with designer Bob Mackie, who she's known for over 30 years, to design her costumes for her upcoming 7-month tour.  I gotta say, it's a hot look and I already know Tina's gonna look fabulous in it.  Look, if I can pull off this kinda look when I'm 68 years old, then I'm doing better than great.

Tina Turner, 68, says she’s “leaning a bit more towards a rock-influenced look.” To that end, Mackie has been looking back at the thigh-grazing dresses, beaded tops and shiny stretch pants he created for Turner’s solo club act in the late Seventies. His new designs include the requisite “Proud Mary” minidresses, as well as a postapocalyptic look inspired by Turner’s role in 1985’s “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” and a vixen getup à la “GoldenEye,” the 1995 James Bond film for which she wrote the theme song. And, though he’s working in a mostly neutral palette (“Because there’s so much there, you wouldn’t want to [use a lot of color],” he notes), Mackie’s going full throttle with the details, including plenty of lacing, fringe, studs and jewels.

“The only restriction I’ve given him is that I must be able to move easily,” Turner says. “If I have to concern myself with a dress sleeve or a sequin or things coming out that shouldn’t — that’s a problem.”

Janet Jackson Hospitalized...

Janet Jackson has been hospitalized, the singer's rep said Monday.

The singer, 42, was due to perform in Montreal Monday but canceled the gig after she "got suddenly ill" during her sound check and had to be rushed to the hospital just before show time.

She is being monitored at the hospital and hopes to reschedule the show.  No further information was given.

Janet Jackson has been released from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, according to a hospital rep.

"Yesterday evening she was checked into the Royal Victoria Hospital and left a couple of hours later," Rebecca Burns, the spokeswoman for the McGill University Health Centre, which operates the hospital, told PEOPLE. Jackson has complained of exhaustion, a source close to boyfriend Jermaine Dupri tells PEOPLE. "A 42-year-old body can't handle what a 22-year-old body can," says the source. "I can tell you that she's definitely tired. It was probably exhaustion. She is doing back-to-back, three-hour shows, and her body isn't the same as it used to be."

Usher To Launch a Lingerie Line...

Another celebrity clothing line? Seriously, when does it stop? Lingerie and Usher. I don't know if I would have ever thought of him as a lingerie designerUsher, who already has two successful men’s and women’s fragrances, is now starting his own intimates line. While sitting front-row at the Marlies Dekkers Lingerie show in Paris this weekend, the R&B singer told WWD, “You may have heard that I might be launching a lingerie line for men and women. Comfort and intimacy is very important.” There is no launch date yet, but some of Usher’s lingerie designs are featured in his new “Trading Places” video.

These Circles Are Sooo Unnecessary.

The circles on this dress are a major distraction, and I don't know about you, but I don't want people uncomfortably distracted around my headlight... area.  Not a good look.

No Heels is the New Crazy.

How is she even walking in these things?  I guess you have to be on superhero fashionista status to even attempt wearing boots like these.  Victoria Beckham wore these $6,000 Antonio Berardi PVC boots while promoting one of her fragrances at Macy's recently.

Yet Another Celebrity Clothing Designer...

Rachel Bilson launches her new jeans collection at Macys Aventura on September 28, 2008 in Aventura, Florida.

Rachel Bilson is teaming up with DKNY Jeans to create a new sportswear line called Edie Rose. "This line is my main focus right now," Bilson told Women's Wear Daily. "I can't draw at all, so I won't be doing any sketches, but I am learning to sew. I think it's important to know more about the whole process of making clothes." The collection—which includes mod frocks and menswear-inspired separates—will debut in September 2008. "I want people to see these clothes for what they are, not just another line designed by another celebrity," Bilson said. "I want the line to be taken seriously."

I ♥ This Shorty Jumpsuit...

At least, it looks like a jumpsuit because it could very well be a blouse and shorts.  But for the purposes of this post, and until Ferragamo sends me this entire ensemble in a size 6 to verify, then I'm calling it a jumpsuit.  This champagne colored, draped jumpsuit was part of Salvatore Ferragamo's Womenswear collection for Spring 2009 and I have to say, I'm feeling the whole look of it.  A LOT.  I think I've officially come full circle on this jumpsuit trend.. and seeing that they were all over the Spring '09 runways, it doesn't look like they're going anywhere anytime soon.

Rihanna to Launch a Clothing Line...

Rihanna is set to be the latest celebrity to dabble in the world of fashion, with the news that she will launch her own clothing range.

In Milan yesterday for the Gucci show, the Disturbia singer told WWD that the collection was already in the works.

‘I’m not one to rush into anything. I want to take my time,’ she said, I can’t say when it will be released, but it’s definitely going to happen.’

As the latest spokesperson for Gucci, Rihanna shot her first campaign for the brand over the summer. When asked why she joined the brand she responded that its charity work had been a deciding factor, ‘I give them so much respect,’ she described.

It’s been a busy time for the singer who is currently touring Europe to promote her latest single, before embarking on a trip to Australia and New Zealand next month.

Spotted Out: Kelly Rowland at Roberto Cavalli...

Kelly with designer Roberto Cavalli.

Kelly is looking fabulous and I'm loving this color on her.  Kelly attended the Roberto Cavalli fashion show at Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2009 on September 24, 2008 in Milan, Italy.

The Shoes at the Prada Show are Just Wrong.

Prada had a fashion show in Milan during Milan Fashion Week and the shoes had the models hitting the floor hard and fast.  This type of thing usually makes me laugh a little, but watching the short clip below with that one model struggling to walk in those extra high-heeled platform shoes and failing miserably is just sad.

The "Shootie". Half Boot, Half Shoe.

I'm kinda feeling this particular new shoe hybrid.  And Piperlime has a nice selection of "shooties".  Click the button below (then click on the Piperlime tab) to browse and shop.

Jennifer Hudson, Heidi Klum and Sanaa Lathan all wore the same black Michael Kors jumpsuit to different events.  Who do you think did it better?

Warren Sapp Brings It on "Dancing"...

Every season of "Dancing with the Stars" I'm only mildly excited about watching, but then every season, someone from the newest "Dancing lineup" gets me excited to watch! This season for me, it's Warren Sapp! It was so fun to watch him dance last night, it was complete kicks.  I must have watched the video below a half dozen times already.. My other faves from this season will probably be Toni Braxton and (amazing looking mother of 4) Brooke Burke.

Fashion No No...

What in the world is going on with this skirt???
I swear, I can't figure this one out..

Spring 2009 Shoes Steal the Shows...

Sole-less heels (above) at the Aminaka Wilmont show at London Fashion Week.

With Spring 2009 trends stomping down runways worldwide it seems designers from Madrid to London to Paris to Milan to New York are complimenting, or even outdoing, their looks with wild and playful footwear that would make any shoe-lover shout. Are these new shoe trends too over-the top or do they win best in show? Click here to see more International Fashion Week shoe style.  [via Huffpost Fashion]

Black Dresses Ruled on Emmy's Red Carpet...

Tina Fey, Mary Tyler Moore, Kristin Chenoweth, and Kate Walsh.

Sandra Oh, Debra Messing, and America Ferrera all wear classic black at the 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on September 21, 2008.

See more Emmy Red Carpet pics here.  Some of my favorites were Heidi Klum, Brooke Shields, Christina Applegate and Sandra Oh (above).  Sandra's lace and ruffled dress was much prettier than the pictures are showing.  Who didn't I like?  Eva Longoria Parker. Her whole look just didn't do it for me.

Serena Williams Signs 7 Figure Book Deal...

$1 Million or more for your memoirs Serena?  Nice.

A memoir by Serena Williams will be released in 2009 by Grand Central Publishing, which beat out a handful of other publishers bidding for the life story of the No. 1 ranked women's tennis player.

Serena Williams is one of the world's most remarkable athletes," Grand Central editor Karen Kosztolnyik said Tuesday in a statement. "We've watched her rise to No. 1 despite physical and emotional setbacks, and her hard work and determination have inspired legions of fans young and old. Serena will give her memoir a strong motivational slant."

Financial terms for the book, currently untitled, were not disclosed, although a publishing official with knowledge of the negotiations said bidding reached at least $1.3 million. The official, citing the confidentiality of the negotiations, declined to be identified.

Williams, 26, has won nine Grand Slam titles and, with sister
Venus Williams, won a gold medal in women's doubles at the recent Olympics in Beijing.

Grand Central Publishing is a division of the Hachette Book Group.

A Promenade of Shoes at NYC's Spring 2009 Shows...

Photographer Bill Cunningham was out on the streets during the Spring 2009 shows in NYC showcasing an "incredible promenade of style" when it comes to the shoes that the chic & stylish wear to the shows. He talks you through his shots and I just really enjoyed watching it!  Having done both Los Angeles (more laid back) and New York's Fashion Weeks (much more "on trend" and style driven..) I could certainly relate to changing out of my flat shoes to heels just before and right after the shows, especially in NYC with the amount of walking involved.

Christian Siriano Spring 2009

So Much Fab Fashion To Cover! And Hurricane Ike.

Well today (September 12th) marks the final day of the Spring 2009 shows at NY Fashion Week and not a single show has been covered on Hip Candy yet!  Incroyable!  That's "incredible" in French if you didn't know already... ok, nevermind, that was a lame attempt at being chic.  Anyhoo, my weekend plans are to peruse all the glorious shows of some of my fave designers (like Christian Siriano, that's his fabulous yellow gown above..) post up fabulous pics and then try to determine any emerging trends from the Spring 2009 season.

But like I said, that's the plan.  For those of you who don't know, I live in Louisiana, we just came off of a devastating hurricane, "Gustav", and now there's another one in the Gulf, "Ike" so Gulf States are all on watch this weekend even if we're not in the storms direct path.  They're saying that Hurricane Ike has a ridiculous 900 mile spread which means we'll probably feel some effects of any outer bands from this storm.  I'm such a meteorologist!  But in all seriousness, my prayer is that everyone is out of the direct path of this thing and are hunkering down somewhere safe, I'm also hoping that this storm loses strength with the swiftness, and NO MORE POWER OUTAGES!  Stay tuned...

Joy Bryant on Being a Black Model in the Business...

An interesting article from Ms. Bryant...
Model/Actress Joy Bryant: I dropped out of Yale at the end of my sophomore year to model. I gave myself a year to make it happen (turns out that small window was very unrealistic; no wonder people thought me nuts for dropping out). If it worked out, great. See ya, suckas! And if it didn't, I'd come back to school and figure out what the hell to do with the rest of my life, or at least pick a damn major. So just like that, I went from brains to beauty. The timing could not have been better: Seventeen magazine was booking their back to school issue and selected me. They seemed to dig my Ivy League credentials. Others seemed shocked that I wasn't an idiot. This is, verbatim, how the conversation would go every time:
Fashion Person: So, have you finished high school?

Joy: Umm, yeah, I did a few years of college too.

Fashion Person: College? Really? Where?

Joy: Oh, just a school in CT.

Fashion Person: Where in CT?

Joy: New Haven.

Fashion Person: And what school is this?

Joy: Uh, Yale...

Fashion Person: Oh, you're smart?!

Top Model Cycle 11 Updates...

Ok, I missed the premiere episode when it aired last week, but I caught up on the 2 hour episode a little while ago and I definitely have a few favorites emerging.  I'm loving Sheena, I really like her attitude and her spirit.  You look at her and you see one thing, but then she opens her mouth and you discover she's a total hoodrat!  I love that about her!  And of course I like Joslyn, she's a Louisiana girl just like me and I like her bubbliness.  And she's not a quitter (Joslyn tried out for ANTM a million times before she finally made it on). I like that. I'm definitely pulling for her.  So far, I'm not really feeling Clark, and as for the rest of 'em, well the jury's still out.  Click here to see who was eliminated from ANTM so far if you missed it.

Where Are The Updates??

Blame Hurricane Gustav! A whole week and no updates on this page.. the hurricane hit New Orleans and Baton Rouge (where I live..) on Monday September 1st, and we've had massive power outages across the city and state since then. The damage to Baton Rouge was much worse (mostly from wind damage) than people had expected. I've only been able to check my email on my cell phone. The inconvenience of no electricity has been.. oh, how can I put it.. not fun! No lights, no air, no Internet, but thank God, everyone in my family is safe and doing ok considering. There's so much I've missed this week! Top Model's Cycle 11 premiere, the RNC (gotta know what we're up against, lol!), this week's Project Runway and New York's FASHION WEEK kicks off today! I'm updating from my brother's house right now, he has generator power. This thing was serious! But we're praying that the power will be restored in the next few days. Just wanted to let people know what was going on here at Hip Candy. I'm still here! And as soon as we get power back on, it's back on right here at Hip Candy. But until then, I hope you'll visit my link partners and keep checking back for updates, cuz they're coming! I appreciate y'all sticking with me...
