Beyonce Looking Fierce on the Cover of Ebony...

If you are a regular reader of this blog, then you know my history of clashing with Beyonce's over the top style. But yes, even I had to give her props for her latest Ebony Magazine cover (April 2009). Chick is seriously working it out in these pictures IMHO.

Style Verdict: Leather Dress...

Debra Messing attends the Robert Vetica "Good to Great Hair" book launch hosted by Salma Hayak at Beso wearing a chestnut hued (leather?) dress on February 26, 2009 in Hollywood.

When I first saw pictures of this dress, I have to say, it threw me a little. I mean, it's a WHOLE LEATHER DRESS. I can't really say whether or not I'm sold on this look completely, because I honestly don't know. It looks a bit bulky here like it's really supposed to be a jacket or something else. And if it's made of genuine leather, well you already know PETA's not happy with it. I do like the color though, I own a pair of boots a similar color and I love them. But enough of what I think, I want to know what YOU think about this look. Do you like it? Hate it? Don't care? Would you wear it? I wanna know your style verdict.

Watch "Running in Heels" the Newest Style Reality Show..

With no "Project Runway" on television for the foreseeable future (the shows legal litigation between Bravo and Lifetime is still unresolved), well, style junkies will just have to take what they can get. Watch a full episode below of "Running in Heels" below via the Style Network and My Style. If it helps any, Project Runway judge, Nina Garcia is involved..

Happy Mardi Gras!

If you live in Louisiana like me, or South America (Carnival in Brazilor wherever else in the world that they celebrate Mardi Gras, I hope you have a happy and safe "Fat Tuesday!"
I'll be back here posting on Wednesday February 25th!

Same Night. Same Event. Same Dress?

Two Governor's wives (R. Gov. Bobby Jindal, who is the current Governor of my state, and his wife Supriya, and L. Gov. Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania and his wife Marjorie) showed up to the Governor's dinner at the white house hosted by the Obama's Sunday night (2/22/09) wearing what appears to be the exact same red dress. How awkward was that night for these two ladies if it was the same dress?
What are you supposed to do in this type of situation?

Karen Martin of The Advocate confirms that it was indeed the same dress..

The dress in question? (below)

Beyonce's Massively OVERPOSED Oscar Night...

WTH is this pose about?! Is she showing off her rings?

I don't know who is telling Beyonce that posing really stiff like a mannequin is the business, but whoever this person is, really needs to be FIRED.

Beyonce in a House of Dereon Gown

I realize I'm risking possible hate mail with this post, but really, Beyonce's overposed red carpet shots from the 2009 Oscars just went on and on and on and on. Really, they just kept going. Is it just me, or is she ALWAYS super stiff and overposed on the red carpet? Like right here from a couple years ago. And again here and here. Honestly, I really wish Beyonce would just loosen up and RELAX and have fun for once when she's attending these things. Well... if no one else is gonna tell her, then I guess I will. Beyonce, hon, your red carpet shots are usually way overdone. Time to dial it back a notch.

Fun, Fall Fashion at Milly's 2009 Fall/Winter Show...

Readers of this blog know by now that I'm a HUGE fan of ANYTHING CUTE (which should explain my obsession with designers like Tracy Reese and Erin Fetherston). And Milly designer Michelle Smith didn't disappoint in her Fall/Winter offerings. If you were heavy into "the cuteness" like me, then you'd have fun wearing just about every ensemble she sent down the runway. Love. See a video clip of Milly's Fall 2009 show below:

It's Neon Bright at Michael Kors [AW09 VIDEO]...

Bright neon colors were way out in front at Michael Kors 2009 Fall/Winter show. Where in the world do you even wear neon? IDK... anyhoo, I'm still a huge fan of Michael Kors, I especially loved all his one shoulder belted dresses, although I could have done without the ginormous shoulders on a few of them. Watch a video clip of the Fall 2009 Michael Kors show below:

Badgley Mischka is Classy [AW09 VIDEO]...

Are ya'll noticing that black opaque tights are all over the fall runways again? Black tights should just be a recurring theme every Fall season IMO. Love. Check out a clip of Badgley Mischka's classy 2009 Fall/Winter presentation below:

Carolina Herrera AW09: Fabulously Fall...

Natasha Poly walks the runway at the Carolina Herrera Fall 2009 during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Bryant Park on February 16, 2009 in New York.

Watching the Carolina Herrera Fall/Winter show, it just felt like Fall. The silhouettes, the colors... I'm loving that chocolate bronze in the pic above. Nice. See a video clip of her show below:

Joy Bryant is Wearing My Dress!

I purchased this Thakoon dress (pronounced TA-koon, just found that out a little while ago..) last month to wear to an event. I was drawn to it because it was different, he pleats his garments in unusual places, and because it has POCKETS! If you've been reading this blog for ANY amount of time, then you know very well how I feel about dresses with pockets ♥♥♥. Joy wore the same dress while attending Thakoon Panichgul's 2009 Fall/Winter show during New York Fashion Week (2/16/09).

Tracy Reese is Fabulous: Fall Winter 2009 [VIDEO]

Tracy's Fall/Winter 2009 collection is being described as "romance and understated glamour meet rustic chic." I'm describing it as majorly adorable! All of her cutesy ruffled mini dresses would be such fun to wear in the cold weather months, and a few of her dresses would transition seamlessly into the following spring. Well done Tracy... watch a video clip of Tracy's Fall 2009 collection below:

Nicole Miller AW09 [VIDEO]

Models walk the runway wearing Nicole Miller Fall 2009 during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Bryant Park on February 13, 2009 in New York City. I really loved her mini dresses and all the bright color she used. Nice. A clip of Nicole Miller's show below.

Fun and Flirty at Erin Fetherston AW09 [VIDEO]

Designer Erin Fetherston posed before her Fall 2009 show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Bryant Park on February 15, 2009 in New York.

I'm a proud owner of an Erin Fetherston party dress, similar to the one she's wearing in the photo above. My dress was from her GO! International line for Target from a couple years back (see it here), and I just love it! I'm actually wearing that very dress in this pic. Her things always look like they belong on a toy doll to me, but I like the fun edge she incorporates into all her clothes. See a video clip of her show below:

Even More Obama Fashion Emerges at NY Fashion Week..

Model Oluchi wearing Xuly Bet at the This Day/Arise Magazine's African Fashion Collective 2009 during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on February 13, 2009 in New York.

The This Day Arise magazine African fashion collective showed Friday February 13th at Bryant Park during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. The show spotlighted four designers, Xuly Bet, Tiffany Amber, Stoned Cherrie, and Momo. The This Day show was perfectly in tune with what's happening in the world now, the current political climate in the United States. And it's what everyone's talking about this season -- The Obama Effect - finally the industry casting more African American models on the runway. The show even featured legendary model and actress, Grace Jones. See a clip of the show below:

Herve Leger AW09 [VIDEO]

Herve Leger designer Max Azria and actress Lucy Liu pose backstage at the Herve Leger Fall 2009 show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Bryant Park on February 15, 2009 in NYC.

Jason Wu AW09 Presentation...

Jason Wu helped to open Fashion Week with his presentation on Friday, and due to his recent connects with First Lady Michelle Obama, you know he packed the house. It was a bit of a struggle for me to find a cohesive theme in what he presented in his Fall collection, but his pieces were beautiful nonetheless. I'll go ahead and make a prediction that we'll probably see Michelle in the black printed number below (2nd from left) sometime in the future.

BCBG Max Azria AW09 [VIDEO]

The most stand out thing (to me) at BCBG's presentation were the bold liquid gold tights. Wow.

My favorite red dresses from the 2009 Heart Truth show was Lynda Carter's Carolina Herrera, Nia Long's Tracy Reese, and the ribbon hem on Valerie Bertinelli's Christian Siriano gown was awesome. Nice.

Rachel Roy AW09 Presentation...

Rachel Roy kicks off New York Fashion Week each season with one of the very first shows, but her Fall/Winter presentation didn't really wow me like pieces from her Spring '09 offering did. Maybe it was a complete lack of color in her Autumn collection (just about everything was white, black or platinum silver), but I still think Rachel's a fab designer.

First Lady Michelle Obama Covers VOGUE Magazine..

It's official: Michelle Obama is the first lady of American fashion, appearing on the cover of the March issue of Vogue.

Every first lady since Lou Hoover — save Bess Truman — has been photographed for the high-fashion magazine. Mrs. Obama appears wearing a magenta silk sheath dress by Jason Wu, who also designed her inaugural gown. Vogue's editor at large Andre Leon Talley called his interviews with Mrs. Obama ahead of President Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony "one of the best experiences of my life."

My Red Dress Collection...

Red lace cocktail mini, strapless red and white cotton paisley dress, sleeveless lace cocktail mini.

Red & white chiffon baby doll, red & white resort maxi dress (with pockets!), red plaid sheath dress with satin belt.

These are all dresses I've sewn myself, the earliest being the strapless cotton paisley (top, middle), and the latest are the two lace minis. The lace mini with the sleeve (top left) was inspired by this Kimora Lee Simmons look. My dress has a similar, shorty fit. I've shown you the red plaid sheath and the maxi dress before (see more of my sewing style here) See? I've been sewing! And since these dresses had a red theme, well I thought what better time to display them than the  month of ♥February♥ and today (Feb. 6) being National wear red day. I hope you're wearing your red today! Well needless to say, I'm proud of these dresses, but I would love to know your thoughts on them either in the comments or by taking the poll below.

Friday February 6th is National Wear Red Day!

Don't forget to wear your RED!

Friday February 6, 2009 is National Wear Red Day

Friday, February 6, 2009, is National Wear Red Day, when thousands of Americans across the country will wear red to unite in the national movement to remind everyone that heart disease is the #1 killer of women. The day serves as a personal and urgent wake-up call for women about their risk for heart disease. Heart disease is preventable and getting serious about heart disease can mean a longer, healthier life.

Simply wear your favorite red dress, tie, or shirt on National Wear Red Day and help inspire others to take action to reduce their risk for heart disease. National Wear Red Day is a program of The Heart Truth, an awareness campaign for women and heart disease that rallies the women’s health community, major corporations, and community groups toward a common goal of greater awareness and better heart health for all women.

Starting on National Wear Red Day, for the first time ever, the public can bid on a selection of designer dresses from The Heart Truth’s celebrity red dress fashion shows through an online auction partnership with Clothes Off Our Back (www.clothesoffourback.org).

The 2009 show is scheduled for Friday February 13th. See which celebrities will be walking in the 2009 Heart Truth show here.

Etta James Not Pleased with Beyonce For Singing Her Song

Beyonce sang "At Last" during the Obama's first inaugural dance, a song that 71 year old Etta James made famous, and Etta's none too happy about it.

Read more on the story here.

Etta says she was just joking about being upset with Beyonce for singing her song and that it was all in fun.
